Lawton, Koe grab Classic curling titles
The Stefanie Lawton team from Saskatoon won the 2012 Manitoba Lotteries Women’s Curling Classic at the Fort Rouge Curling Club and the $15,000 first-place prize.
Lawton and her team of Sherry Anderson, Sherry Singler and Marliese Kasner defeated the Rachel Homan team from Ottawa 6-4 in the final on Monday night.
Meanwhile, in Portage la Prairie, it was a battle of Alberta in the championship final of the 2012 Canad Inns Prairie Classic men’s curling bonspiel.
Kevin Koe of Calgary defeated Kevin Martin of Edmonton 9-4 to win the championship and the $18,000 top prize while Martin, the 2010 Olympic men’s curling gold medallist, won $10,000 for his second-place finish. The event carried a total prize purse of $58,000 as a premier event on the World Curling Tour.
