MONTREAL — A doozy missed draw handed Chelsea Carey four stolen points and her third straight win at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts today, as the Manitoba skip beat Nova Scotia's Heather Smith 7-3.
Although the score makes it look like a triumphant Carey victory, the game was anything but that, with Smith keeping the Manitobans on the run for most of the game.
But holding the hammer in the ninth, with a simple draw to take a 4-3 lead, Smith's rock flashed through the house, leaving Carey's cluster of four red rocks to score.
"Really lucky to win that game," Carey said after, with a critical eye to her own game.
With the win, the Manitobans rise to 3-1 on the week and right up in the emerging playoff race, with seven games yet to go before the playoffs begin at Maurice Richard Arena on Friday night.
They play just one game today and resume Tuesday morning.
