Canada meets U.S. in 3-4 playoff
RIGA, Latvia -- Canada's RACHEL HOMAN will play the United States today in the Page playoff 3-4 game at the world women's curling championship.
American skip Erika Brown defeated Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni 7-4 in the second tiebreaker of the day at the Volvo Sports Center. Earlier, Tirinzoni beat Russia's Anna Sidorova 7-6 in an extra end.
Canada has the day off after wrapping up the third seed a day earlier with an 8-3 round-robin record. Sweden's Margaretha Sigfridsson defeated Scotland's Eve Muirhead 7-5 in the Page playoff 1-2 game later in the day. Sigfridsson advanced to Sunday's gold-medal game while Muirhead will play in the semifinal tonight.
The 3-4 game winner advances to today's semifinal. The winner of the semifinal plays for gold on Sunday while the loser plays the 3-4 game loser for bronze.
