ABBOTSFORD, B.C. -- Newfoundland and Labrador's Cathy Cunningham and Glenn Goss each opened the Canadian senior curling championship with big wins Saturday.
Cunningham opened with four points in the first end en route to a 15-0 victory of Ann McKellar-Gillis of the Northwest Territories.
On the men's side, Goss had four points in the eighth end to win 9-4 against Quebec's Pierre Charette.
Cunningham was joined atop the women's standings by British Columbia, Northern Ontario, Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan, which each won in the opening draw.
B.C. edged New Brunswick 7-6, Alberta cruised by P.E.I. 9-3, Northern Ontario held off Nova Scotia 10-9, Ontario downed Manitoba 5-2 and Saskatchewan beat Quebec 7-6.
After two draws Alberta, Manitoba, Northern Ontario, B.C., and Saskatchewan joined Goss at 1-0 in men's play.
Alberta opened the tournament with a 10-4 win over P.E.I., Northern Ontario edged Nova Scotia 7-6, B.C. beat Yukon 8-2, Manitoba defeated Ontario 8-5 and Saskatchewan rolled over New Brunswick 10-3.
Draws remained for both the men and women Saturday evening.
