Quebec leads mixed curling championship; Manitoba in hunt at 2-2

MONTREAL -- Mike Fournier's hometown rink remained perfect at the 2013 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship with a 9-6 win over B.C. on Monday.

Fournier, with teammates Alanna Routledge, Mike Kennedy and Joelle St.-Hilaire, broke the game open early with four in the second end against Tom Buchy's rink.

Fournier followed with two in the fourth and three in the seventh to take a 9-4 lead. Buchy made a nice double take-out to score one in the eighth and then stole a single in the ninth to make the score respectable.

Quebec improved to 4-0 and faces New Brunswick in the late draw. Meanwhile, B.C. fell to 2-2.

Saskatchewan remained right behind Quebec with an 11-5 rout of Yukon.

Saskatchewan's Jeff Hartung scored five in the sixth end to break open a close game and improve to 3-1. Steve Fecteau's Whitehorse foursome fell to 0-4.

Nova Scotia's Brent MacDougall fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 6-4 loss to Manitoba's Terry McNamee. Manitoba led 4-1 in the fifth end and held on for the win.

Nova Scotia fell to 3-1, while Manitoba evened its record at 2-2.

In the final game of Draw 6, P.E.I.'s Robert Campbell earned his first win of the tournament 13-4 over Nunavut's Nick Saturnino. Campbell is 1-3 and Saturnino is 0-4.

In other Draw 7 matches, Alberta meets P.E.I., Nova Scotia takes on Northern Ontario and Ontario plays the Yukon.
