Westman Selects are champs again

  • Print
THE Westman Selects have repeated as champions, winning the 2009 Western Shield senior A women's hockey championship title on Sunday in Calgary.

The Selects defeated the host Calgary Coyotes 7-3 in the senior A division gold-medal championship game.

The Winnipeg Aces won the bronze medal in the senior B division.

"It means a lot to us, we worked hard and our team was really clicking this weekend," said Selects forward Ashley King. "With this being the top level and the highest you can go in senior women's hockey now, it means a lot to our girls to be champions."

The Selects include players from last year's Western Shield champion Selects team and several players who were members of Team Manitoba, which won the last Hockey Canada Esso Nationals championship. Those include Carissa Schettler, Shelley Cockerill, Deena Caplette, Bonnie Kroeker, Devon Fingland, Aimee Collins and Hailey Clarkson.
