Ex-Blue QBs update
First, some news on former Bomber QB Ryan Dinwiddie who — after weeks of speculation — has found a home with Brendan Taman, Doug Berry and Bob Dyce in Saskatchewan.
The Roughriders announced his signing today, along with former Kansas star Todd Reesing. Dinwiddie started the 2007 Grey Cup game for the Bombers, but was released before training camp opened last year. There's no secret that Berry, in particular, is a huge fan of the former Boise State star's work ethic and skill set.
Reesing is an intriguing addition because you don't play at a Big 12 school unless you've got considerable game.
Meanwhile, interesting piece here in the Milford Daily News on QB Ricky Santos, cut by the Bombers last week, and his attempt to find work elsewhere in pro football.
What jumped out in the story for us was the insinuation by Santos that his release came because of GM Joe Mack's association with Alex Brink, whose rights were acquired from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, during draft day earlier this month.
"There's little doubt that Brink's arrival hurt me," Santos told the newspaper. "Mack and Brink have some ties that go back to Houston. Mack knew a lot about him and nothing about me. What blindsided me was that the new coach seemed interested in my ability. LaPolice told me my release was out of his hands."
Santos and his agent are now hoping to land work with a CFL team, although that seems unlikely right now. He may get a sniff if a QB goes down, but as a third stringer with limited playing time that's doubtful. His best option might be the UFL or Arena League.
The Bombers will go to camp in just over a week with four quarterbacks: Buck Pierce, Steven Jyles, Adam DiMichele and Brink.
