Bombers release Lobendahn, Jules

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released import linebacker Joe Lobendahn and non-import defensive back Jerry-Ralph Jules.

Lobendahn joined the Bombers in 2008 and played in 45 games, making 180 tackles and 20 special teams tackles. The middle linebacker was viewed as the heir apparent to Barrin Simpson, but injuries prevented him from having a similar impact. Lobendahn had seven sacks and one interception during his time with the Bombers.

"It is with sincere disappointment that we make this move today as Joe has been nothing but a professional in his time with Winnipeg and has always been a fierce competitor and an exemplary leader on and off the field," said GM Joe Mack.

"Unfortunately, due to his past injury history and the projected ratio change on our defence that requires us to start a certain amount of non-imports, we felt this was in the best interest of the Winnipeg Football Club. We thank Joe for everything he has done for the Blue Bombers over the past four seasons and wish him nothing but the best."
