Bombers add three Canadians to roster

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added three more Canadians to the roster Friday.

The club signed defensive lineman Rob Jubenville, offensive lineman Jean-Sebastien Laberge and linebacker Rene Stephan, the 23rd overall pick in the CFL draft earlier this month. Jubenville and Laberge’s rights were picked up by the Bombers after the draft, as CFL rules allow teams to protect two non-import players who weren’t drafted.

Jubenville (6-foot-2, 255-pounds) led the CIS in sacks (10) last season. The 22-year-old registered 43 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles with Saint Mary’s. Laberge, 25, is a 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman who started with Sherbrooke last year.

Stephan, 24, is one to watch when the club opens rookie camp at the end of May. He was Winnipeg’s fourth round selection in the CFL draft, but the 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker from Harding University has been out of football since 2009.

Bombers management decided to take a chance on him after he tested well at the league evaluation camp this past spring.
