Bombers extend contracts of Watson, Poblah
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will announce Wednesday that they have signed non-import receivers Cory Watson and Kito Poblah to contract extensions.
Watson, who turned 28 on Tuesday, had at least one catch in 17 of the Bombers 18 regular season games in 2011, finishing his second-year in the CFL with 792 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Quebec native is highly regarded by the Bombers coaching staff and is expected to hold down one of the Canadian starting spots on the Bombers this season.
Another of those Canadian spots is expected to be held by Poblah, who had an injury-filled rookie season in 2011 after the Bombers selected him in the 2011 supplemental draft.
Poblah, 24, played in just three regular season games last season and recorded just 10 catches for 99 yards. Nine of those catches, however, came in just one game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Labour Day, offering a glimpse of what the Bombers braintrust believes will be a bright future for Poblah in the CFL.
A Montreal native who had a standout college career with Central Michigan, the Bombers gave up a first round-round pick in this year’s draft to take Poblah last season.
