Bombers launch CFL's first scratch-and-win
Funds raised to help pay down stadium debt
Lucky Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans can now find ways to win off the football field.
The local CFL team and Manitoba Lotteries officially unveiled the "Bombers Scratch and Win" tickets Wednesday morning. The club will print 750,000 tickets to be sold to Manitoba residents, with the lottery featuring two grand prizes of $100,000.
The $5 tickets are already in circulation at various lotteries outlets around Manitoba. As of Wednesday, over 26,000 had been sold.
It’s the first scratch-and-win lottery in CFL history. The Bombers hope it can help generate some extra revenue to help pay down the debt they assumed regarding the new stadium, but club CEO Garth Buchko wouldn’t get into specifics on how much money the club stands to raise.
"Right now we’re not going to announce what that total is. It will be in the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars if we sell out the lottery," Buchko said.
"We have a longstanding cross-promotional relationship with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and we see this as a natural extension of that relationship," added Karen Hiebert, director of strategic communications for Manitoba Lotteries.
Besides the monetary prizes available to won, lucky ticket holders can enter online to win one of 12 unique fan "experiential" prizes.
Among those include one 10-year Bombers season ticket package; a VIP trip to the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto; one "ultimate" road trip with the team; a dinner with the team’s offensive line or defensive line at 529 Wellington; and a golf game with Bomber legends.

The team also hinted that they are looking at increasing the circulation of the popular Bombers licence plates. Buchko said there is currently a waiting list for more plates, but wouldn't say when additional vehicle tags would be introduced. The Bombers sold all 8,100 plates last year.
