Bombers sign Turner to 'anchor' defensive line

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have re-signed all-star defensive tackle Bryant Turner to a new contract.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed this morning.

"I’m really excited to get this deal done prior to free agency and stay with the organization that gave me an opportunity," said Turner, in a press release. "I really feel that we are on the road to great things in Winnipeg and I cannot wait to play in the new Investors Group Field, in front of the best fans in the CFL."

The 25-year-old product of Mobile, Ala., finished the 2012 season, his second in the CFL, with 20 defensive tackles, six quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Locking him up with a new contract is huge for the organization, said Bombers’ vice-president and GM Joe Mack.

"Bryant is an integral part of our defense and organization as a whole," Mack said. "His character both on and off the field are exactly what we look for as representatives of the Blue Bombers, and we are thrilled to get this deal completed and have Bryant anchor our defensive line once again."
