Buck back on field and 'healthy to go'

  • Print

After taking a maintenance day to rest some bruises on Sunday, Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce was back on the field on Canada Day.

"He's healthy to go," Bombers coach Tim Burke said after a brisk Canada Day practice.

Running back Chad Simpson and receiver Chris Matthews were also taking reps after resting aching body parts on Sunday.

Burke also noted that recover Kito Poblah is still a ways away from a return to action, although he is "slowly making progress."

The Bombers have been crunching tape in the wake of last week's loss to the Montreal Alouettes, which saw the Bombers come back from a first-quarter deficit to take a lead, only to watch the game slip away in a toothless fourth quarter.

One of the keys for the team when they meet the Als again in Montreal on Thursday will be to get Simpson going. The back only managed 35 yards in nine carries in the last game.

Without giving away his secrets, Burke said the team is working on new ways to put the ball in Simpson's hands for the next game.
