First game in new stadium could be as early as Sept. 9: Bombers
It will either be tear up the Tabbies or smash those banjos for opening day at the new home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Bombers announced today that they plan to move into their new stadium and play their first game on Sept. 21, a Friday night, against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. If the facility is complete and has been tested in time for the Sept. 9 Banjo Bowl against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Bombers will move things up a few weeks.
"Over the course of the past couple of months, we have been continuously monitoring, very closely, the construction progress of our new home," said President and CEO Garth Buchko. "Our project managers gave us a crucial date of May 1 in which we would know exactly where we stood, and it became apparent that unfortunately we would not be able to hit our target for this date. As a result, we will play our first five regular season home games at Canad Inns Stadium."
Here’s what the Bombers had to say about season tickets:
"The team also announced that season ticket holders who purchased seats at Investors Group Field will regain their seat from 2011 at Canad Inns Stadium up to the number of seats that were renewed in 2012 and will pay 2011 prices for those games. All season ticket holders will have their account credited the difference in prices.
"Renewed season ticket holders can purchase additional tickets from May 4-18. Fans on the season ticket wait list will have an opportunity to purchase season tickets from May 22-26 (subject to availability). Season tickets will go on sale to the general public on May 28, with single game seats available on June 8."
