Hefney back with Bombers for 2013-14

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced Friday morning that they have re-signed defensive back Jonathan Hefney.

Hefney, an East Division all-star in 2012, would have become a free agent on Feb. 15 if the Bombers had not locked him down.

"As a key member of our defence, it was important for us to re-sign Jonathan, who has been a consistent performer throughout his career in Winnipeg," General Manager Joe Mack said in a statement.

"The way Jonathan plays the game, the type of enthusiasm and excitement he brings to the field, certainly rubs off on the rest of his teammates and his experience is one we value as an organization. We look forward to having Jonathan continue his high level of play next season."

Hefney led the Bombers with 74 tackles in 2012 and also added four fumble recoveries, a sack and an interception.

Hefney, 27, will be in his fifth season with the Bombers in 2013.

The Bombers are making Hefney available to the media in a conference call early this afternoon.
