Pegger makes million-dollar final

Winnipeg’s best chance of success in Toronto Friday might well lie with Richard Pope.

The 35-year-old has advanced to the Wendy’s Kick for a Million final and will have the chance to kick a 50-yard field goal worth $1 million at halftime of the game between the Blue Bombers and Argonauts at Rogers Centre. The game starts at 6 p.m. CT.

On Thursday afternoon Winnipeg’s Pope downed Dave Swanston of Burlington, Ont., in a six-kick semifinal, outpointing his opponent 70-65 on boots from a variety of distances. Swanston and Pope were each given six kicks from distances of their choice ranging from 15 to 50 yards. A custom Pope-mobile could be in the kicker’s immediate future.
