Pierce cleared to start Friday against Argos
Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce will start in Toronto on Friday night when the Bombers take on the Argonauts.
Pierce took all of the first-team reps during practice at Canad Inns Stadium on Wednesday and afterward proclaimed himself fit and ready to play again after sitting out the last two games with lingering symptoms from a concussion he suffered Sept. 29 -- the last time the Bombers played the Argos.
"I feel great. I feel good. I feel back to myself," said Pierce.
There were some observers -- most notably former Bombers QB and current TSN analyst Matt Dunigan -- who urged the oft-injured Pierce to retire after he suffered yet another concussion last month from an illegal hit by Argos LB Brandon Isaac.
But Pierce said he has no concerns about any long-term health effects from continuing to play.
"That's their opinion and I respect everybody's opinion... it doesn't bother me. I know how I feel and I know what my body can do," Pierce told reporters after practice. "I say thank you for your opinion and thank you for caring and respecting me enough to care for my well-being.
"But they're not me. They're not in my shoes. This is my career and this is my life."
The 4-11 Bombers have the thinnest of playoff hopes still remaining as they prepare to travel Thursday to Toronto, where they will hold a light practice in advance of Friday night's clash with the 7-8 Argos.
Winnipeg needs to win all three of their remaining regular season games and have Edmonton lose all three of theirs to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Meanwhile, Bombers slotback Terrence Edwards (sore ankle) once again sat out practice on Wednesday. Head coach Tim Burke said Edwards will make the trip to Toronto but a decision on whether he will play likely won't come until game time.
If Edwards cannot go, Burke said receiver Isaac Anderson will play in Toronto.
