Swiston signs contract extension with Bombers
Non-import offensive lineman Paul Swiston has signed a contract extension with the Blue Bombers, the team announced today.
As is team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"I am very happy to have signed this extension," Swiston said in a statement. "Winnipeg is a great place to play football and the Blue Bombers are a great organization for me to continue to develop until I can one day become a full-time starter for this team.
Swiston, a 6-foot-9, 317-pound native of Calgary, has dressed in every game so far this season for the 3-9 Bombers. His first professional start was at right tackle in the season opening game in B.C.
Swiston is on the field in all short yardage situations and also lines up as an extra blocker in certain packages. He has also played a handful of snaps at right guard.
Swiston was drafted by the Blue Bombers in the fourth round (24th overall) of the 2011 CFL Draft and spent all of last season on the nine-game injured list.
The Blue Bombers also today added non-import defensive lineman Ryan Lucas to the practice roster.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Lucas was one of the last cuts from this season’s Bombers training camp.
In his career, with time spent with both the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes, Lucas has appeared in eight regular season games and has recorded one defensive tackle and one fumble recovery. He was with Saskatchewan in 2010 and played in all three playoff games, including the 98th Grey Cup.
