Bombers lose 37-7 to Ticats

  • Print

The casket door will soon close on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ disastrous 2013 season.

And, for many, the end can’t come soon enough.

The Bombers trail the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 27-6 after three quarters at Investors Group Field in the final game of the season.

Hamilton has two Henry Burris-to-Onrea Jones touchdown strikes and a 70-yard romp by Chevon Walker in the third quarter, along with field goals from Luca Congi of 28 and 18 yards. The Bombers’ only scoring has come on a pair of Sandro DeAngelis field goals of 33 and 23 yards.

This is the last game of the season for the Bombers who, at 3-14, are destined to be remembered as one of the worst squads in the club’s history.

The Ticats, 9-8, will play host to next weekend’s East Division Semifinal in Guelph against the Montreal Alouettes.

You’ve got the give the Winnipeg Football Club this much -- they fixed their traffic congestion problems at Investors Group Field.

The traffic and parking problems that bedeviled the team during the first couple games of the 2013 CFL season are nowhere in evidence on Saturday as the Bombers prepare to play their final game of the year, this afternoon at IGF versus the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Although the club has sold about 27,000 tickets for this afternoon’s game, only a fraction of those ticketholders are actually expected to show up, given the team’s 3-14 record and the fact the Winnipeg Jets are also playing at MTS Centre Saturday afternoon.

Regardless of today’s crowd, the Bombers will still break their all-time franchise attendance record. The old record was 29,556, set in 2011. Winnipeg is averaging 31,177 coming into today.

The Bombers need a win Saturday afternoon to avoid tying the franchise record for worst record in an 18-game season, set by the 1998 Bombers at 3-15.

The Bombers' game time scratches are DB Bo Smith, LS Chris Cvetkovic, SB Akeem Foster and OL Chris Kowalczuk.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.. The game is being broadcast live on TSN and CJOB.
