Grey Cup thoughts, edition 1
EDMONTON – It’s bleepin’ freezing here – and this from a guy from Winnipeg – which has me thinking the CFL should issue a warning to the two teams participating in the Grey Cup on Sunday.
Something like:
"WARNING: kissing the championship trophy in -30 conditions can be hazardous to your lips."
Or something like that.
Actually, the forecast for the weekend is looking promising. It’s supposed to get to zero by Friday and be -5 or so on Saturday or Sunday.

OF RUMOURS AND GOSSIP: Arrived here late Monday night and already the rumour mill is spinning like crazy.
Lots of gossip about Montreal head coach Marc Trestman being a candidate with both the University of Minnesota Gophers and Vikings, although he is under contract to the Als.
Sportsnet’s Perry Lefko also has presented a pile of rumours, enough for each team.
As for his take on the Bombers, I’m not sure Greg Marshall would automatically be the new defensive coordinator if Kavis Reed gets the Eskimo head coaching job. Why isn’t defensive-line coach Richard Harris getting more love as a possible replacement?
By the way, I don’t know who started the Henry Burris-to-the-Bombers rumour, but there is no basis to it according to somebody in the club’s front office. Good gossip, though.

The CFL announced the officiating crew for Sunday’s championship and it’s led by Bud Steen, who will be working his final game after 31 years as an on-field official and supervisor.
Included on the crew are two Winnipeggers:
Ritchie Miller (Wade Miller’s brother)- Umpire
Miller will work his 1st Grey Cup game. The 3-year CFL veteran from Winnipeg, Manitoba has called 37 CFL games. Ritchie was born in 1974 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
Brian Chrupalo - Field Judge
Chrupalo will work his 2nd Grey Cup game. The 6-year CFL veteran from Winnipeg, Manitoba has called 80 CFL games. His other Grey Cup appearance came in 2008 (alternate). Brian was born in 1969 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Finally, a cool interactive Grey Cup link for trivia types.
