Let the trimming begin…

The Blue Bombers have started the difficult task of paring down the roster.

The club announced this morning the release of seven players, a list which includes import kick returner Travis Shelton. In Sunday’s pre-season loss in Hamilton, the speedster from Temple mishandled a punt which led to a Tiger-Cats touchdown and did not impress enough to warrant a spot.

Shelton missed most of main camp with a hamstring injury.

Also released  were import linebackers Rian Wallace and SaMario Houston. Wallace, a former Pittsburgh Steelers LB, did not make a smooth adjustment from middle linebacker to defensive end, while Houston found himself behind Marcellus Bowman and Courtney Smith in the weak-side position.

Import defensive back Jason Tate, import defensive lineman Jarrell Chandler, non-import offensive lineman John Hashem, and non-import linebacker Giancarlo Rapanaro were also part of the releases this morning.

CFL teams have until 2 o’clock Thursday to get down to a 46-man active roster and a seven-player practice roster.
