News on the eve of the home opener

The Bombers made a minor trade on Thursday, acquiring long-snapper/defensive tackle Pat MacDonald from the Calgary Stampeders for a conditional draft pick in 2012. MacDonald was released by the Carolina Panthers in late June and won’t be activated for Friday’s Bomber home opener against Calgary, but does give the club more Canadian depth along the D-line behind Doug Brown, Donald Oramasionwu and Shawn Mayne.

Winnipeg is activating DT Tyrone Williams, CB James Johnson and DB Steven Holness while Brown (meningitis), LB Joe Lobendahn (shoulder) and DE Riall Johnson (hamstring) are all out.

A late Calgary scratch will see starting centre Rob Lazeo (elbow) replaced by Tim O’Neill.
