ANDY MULUMBA continues to chase his NFL dream with the Green Bay Packers, but the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have locked up two of their 2013 draft class.
The Bombers may have to wait on Mulumba, a defensive end selected second overall last week despite signing with the Packers, but they will have receiver Carl Fitzgerald and punter Billy Pavlopoulos at training camp.
Fitzgerald (6-5, 240, Saint Mary's) was drafted in the third round (20th overall) after finishing second on the Huskies in receiving last season with 14 receptions for 184 yards and one touchdown. Fitzgerald had 28 catches for 435 yards and three TDs in three years at Saint Mary's and the Bombers like his upside as a tight end/fullback.
Pavlopoulos (6-3, 200, British Columbia) was selected in the seventh round (54th overall) and finished the 2011 season averaging 43 yards per punt -- second-best in the country -- while converting 13 of 19 field-goal attempts. In January 2012 he tested positive for the steroid stanozolol and received a two-year suspension from the CIS.
Earlier this week, the Bombers officially announced the signing of import defensive back Dekota Marshall, who actually used social media to showcase a photograph of him signing the deal earlier this month.
Marshall (6-1, 203, East Carolina) spent the last couple of seasons with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League and the Evansville Rage of the Continental Indoor Football League.
At East Carolina, the 25-year-old Marshall started games at corner, nickel, free safety and strong safety despite missing almost a year and a half due to injury.
Marshall finished his college career with 49 tackles, one interception, seven pass knockdowns and one forced fumble.
