Bombers sign former Big Sky all-star to coach secondary
THE Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added another coach to Tim Burke's staff for the 2013 CFL season.
Burke announced the hiring of defensive backs coach Carl Franks on Monday to push the club's coach total to eight.
"Carl is an excellent teacher who will be a great addition to our coaching staff," said Burke. "We share many of the same beliefs when it comes to the defensive secondary and I look forward to working with him and helping him learn the nuances of our game."
Franks was most recently secondary coach and recruiting co-ordinator at Western Illinois University.
Franks' secondary was highly rated in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, ranking first in pass defence in 2010 and second in 2012.
Franks worked with cornerbacks and special teams at Northern Arizona from 2003-2008 and also has stints at Utah State and the University of Montana on his resume.
Franks was an All-Big Sky safety in 1993 at Montana where he was the teammate of current Bombers' special teams co-ordinator, Craig Dickenson.
