Ex-Rider Marshall first Blue off-season signing

THE Winnipeg Blue Bombers are getting down to fixing their football team.

The club added its first new talent of the off-season on Thursday, agreeing to a contract with wide receiver Vincent Marshall (5-foot-8, 170, Houston) an import who played five games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2008. Marshall finished with nine catches for 145 yards in five games in '08, his biggest game coming in the Riders' spectacular come-from-behind win over the Bombers in the Banjo Bowl.

Marshall had five receptions for 98 yards in that win over the Bombers, including a fourth-quarter touchdown grab from then-Rider QB Michael Bishop. The 26-year-old can also return kicks and was last seen in the camp of the Calgary Stampeders last season.

The Bombers made room for Marshall with the release of receiver Otis Amey.

Meanwhile, former Bomber receiver Arjei Franklin is sticking with the Calgary Stampeders.

Franklin, who was acquired from the Bombers midway through the 2009 CFL season, has signed a contract extension with the Stampeders, the team announced Thursday.

Can anyone answer ? Why do they give new unproven coach's 3 year contracts? As it is they are still paying off the last 2.Why not a 1 year contract with the option to pick up another 2 years based on their performance in the first year? The same should go for players?

It's unfortunate Amey asked for a release, but good luck to him down south. I'm sure we'll welcome you back with open arms if you decide to return to the CFL.
