Game Balls
Offence
Bombers backup QB Joey Elliott had a solid night in relief of starter Alex Brink, going 9-14 for 111 yards in little more than one quarter of work and generally showing no ill effects of the torn ACL that ended his 2011 season in Week 3. Brink was 7-for-15 for 74 yards and Justin Goltz was 2-for-6 for 11 yards.
Defence
Bombers rookie defensive back Demond Washington had a big night, knocking Montreal receiver Brandon London out of the game with one of two big hits he delivered in the first quarter and finishing the night tied with linebackers Dustin Doe and Terrell Parker for the team lead in tackles with 5. Washington also made an interception in the Bombers end zone with less than a minute to play and returned the ball 27 yards.
Special Teams
Bombers rookie punter/kicker Eric Wilbur had a great night, averaging 50.8 yards on five punts -- including a 54 yarder; going 2-for-2 on field goals, including a 47-yarder; and faking a punt and passing complete to rookie running back Anthony Woodson for a first down and a 23-yard pickup.
Critical Numbers
77 -- Bombers rookie receiver Doug Pierce -- all 6-foot-5 of him -- led all receivers in yardage on this night, finishing the night with 4 catches for 77 yards, including a 27-yard pick-up.
1 -- Bombers second-year receiver Jade Etienne, the fourth overall pick in the 2011 CFL Entry Draft, was all but invisible in his rookie season and was invisible again here last night, making one catch for one yard on the night.
315 -- It wasn't flashy -- and it didn't look a whole lot different than the offence we saw last season -- but new Bombers offensive coordinator Gary Crowton's offence showed itself to be efficient and resilient, mustering 327 yards total offence under three different quarterbacks and behind a porous rookie offensive line.
