Blue Bomber Report Record: 0–0–0

Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION

Inside the Xs and Os

VEGAS LINE:

Saskatchewan by 9 1/2

BLUE VS. RIDERS:

The Bombers are 126-91-4 lifetime vs. the Riders, but have lost the last five Labour Day Classics. Overall, Winnipeg has just two wins in the last 11 games with Saskatchewan.

THE FORECAST:

The Environment Canada forecast for Regina on Sunday calls for cloudy skies and a high of 20 C.

CROWD COUNT:

Mosaic Stadium holds 28,800, but there should be over 30 grand in attendance.

ROSTER UPDATE:

QB Buck Pierce returns to the lineup after missing more time thanks to his knee injury. No word if he'll start, however. Other additions to the lineup include S Ian Logan (who's been battling a hamstring issue) and LB Marcellus Bowman, who returns from a hand injury. Injured bodies who won't play include K Louie Sakoda (calf), OL Andre Douglas, OL Luke Fritz (hamstring), WR Terence Jeffers-Harris, LB Bernard Hicks (knee), and WR Cory Watson (knee). OL Brendon LaBatte takes over at left tackle, with rookie Chris Greaves starting at left guard. DB Clint Kent will slide into Hicks' spot.

SHHHHHH:

After missing a few days of practice time this week, SB Terrence Edwards' ankle is good to go for Sunday. The fourth-year Bomber has yet to win a LDC, and says he's getting tired of giving the home crowd something to cheer about. "That's the only way I think you could quiet them down, is by getting a victory. Even then, I'm not so sure that would do it."

HAWKINS OK:

Looks like Saskatchewan DE Brent Hawkins will be ready to play. He was dealing with a shoulder injury, but he returned to practice Friday.

FINALLY:

NFL cuts Friday included former B.C. Lions RB Martell Mallett (cut by Philadelphia) and LB Ricky Foley (New York Jets): former Riders LB Stevie Baggs (Arizona); and one-time Montreal KR Larry Taylor (Jets). Not on the cutting room floor, Bomber fans: DB Jonathan Hefney. Not yet, anyway. The NFL's 53-man roster deadline is today.
