Matthews' little tweet intriguing
NOT a lot has gone right for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2012.
And so when one of the few things that has gone right -- rookie receiver Chris Matthews -- took to his Twitter account this week with a cryptic comment about how he's "feelin real good about my future!!!" after speaking to his agent, it raised some eyebrows.
So what exactly did you mean by that? Matthews was asked after Bombers practice Wednesday.
"It was nothing about going to the NFL or anything like that. It was just plain talk," Matthews replied, almost as cryptically.
If it was just plain talk, it didn't sound very plain. So Matthews was asked more directly: Are you seeking to play elsewhere next season?
"No, I'm not trying to go anywhere else. We're just trying to figure out what's going on."
So a contract extension in Winnipeg then?
"It's just whatever comes up and whatever my agent finds is best suited for me, whether it's here or somewhere else or the NFL," he said. "There's nothing deep into it. I haven't been talking to the (Bombers) front office about any of it."
If that still seems clear as mud, Matthews confirmed in the next breath that he is still signed to a contract through next season and couldn't play anywhere else but Winnipeg in 2013 even if he wanted. "Exactly," he said. "So I'm back next year."
Matthews is currently third in receiving yards in the CFL this season, with 1,090 yards and 7 TDs on 71 receptions.
