JOEY ELLIOTT wasn't officially told he will be the starting quarterback for Monday's game in Montreal when he addressed the media after Thursday's practice but it's a good bet he figured it out during the practice.
Pierce, out with a concussion, did not participate in the practice but was on the field in practice gear wearing a toque. The other three quarterbacks all wore helmets and participated in drills with Elliott taking all the first-team repetitions.
Pierce was not made available to the media but Elliott was permitted to do interviews.
"It's been like that all year, everybody's going how many games is Buck going to be here, when's he not. As a quarterback, you kind of have to go into the game not knowing and prepare (as) if you're going to play," Elliott said.
Elliott, 1-4 as the Bombers' starter this season, said he's preparing to improve his execution on first down.
"They do a lot of different looks on first down and we've got to be successful on first down to give ourselves a chance to move the ball, move the chains and find a way to get in the end zone."

The CFL made it clear Wednesday it won't have one team publicly accusing another of dirty play.
While Bombers linebacker Jovon Johnson was fined for comments of that nature he made to media about the Toronto Argonauts after the Argos linebacker Brandon Isaac's hit on Winnipeg quarterback Buck Pierce after the Bombers' 29-10 loss to the Argonauts on Saturday, Bombers coach Tim Burke said none of it came from the Bombers' coaching staff.
Johnson had suggested Toronto defensive co-ordinator Chris Jones was encouraging Argonauts players to target Pierce.
"I can tell you I never said that so I don't know who would have said that," Burke said after Thursday's practice. "I'm Jovon's coach and I never told him that. That's Jovon saying that. That's not the coaches saying that."
Burke said he does not believe the Argonauts were purposely trying to hurt Pierce.
"I'm a personal friend of (Argos head coach) Scott Milanovich. I know he would not ever condone anything like that."

The Bombers added three players to their practice roster on Thursday including import offensive lineman Lee Barbiasz, import linebacker Marcus McGraw and import receiver Wallace Miles to their practice roster.
The 6-foot-7, 308-pound Barbiasz was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Jacksonville Jaguars following the NFL Draft and recently released. The 6-foot, 228-pound McGraw signed with the Arizona Cardinals out of Houston as an undrafted free agent and appeared in two pre-season games, recording one tackle. Miles, 6-foot-1 and 193 pounds, attended training camp with the Detroit Lions this year and caught one pass for four yards during the preseason.
