It took awhile, but Bisons WR overjoyed to be drafted

QUINCY HURST was hanging around with some buddies on Thursday with one eye on the CFL Draft when he saw his name come flashing across the screen.

The U of M Bisons receiver was selected 28th overall in the 2012 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts.

"I was watching it at my house in Winnipeg with my roommate and one of my Bisons teammates, Teague Sherman, and then I saw my name pop up on the computer screen and then a few minutes later coach (Brian) Dobie called me to let me know," said Hurst, a Vancouver native. "It felt good. It was getting pretty stressful. Seeing receivers go before me and the rounds going by. You start to get your doubts and you see your name and it's a great relief."

The Bisons have now had players selected in 11 of the last 13 CFL drafts and Hurst is the highest receiver taken since Terry Firr was selected by the Montreal Alouettes in the same spot in 2008.

"Toronto has the same kind of feel as Vancouver -- where I'm from -- so it's very appealing to me. I had lots of contact with the Bombers and playing in Winnipeg the last two years I can say the Bombers have grown on me. I was hoping to get picked up by them. I could get an opportunity to play right away in Toronto and maybe help them as a vertical threat," said the 23-year-old Hurst.

Hurst did not play with Manitoba in 2011 but started in all eight conference games in 2010 and was second on the team with 295 receiving yards and two touchdowns. At 5-9, 170 pounds, he was third in Canada West with 378 punt return yards (9.4 average) and had a 100-yard TD punt return. He recorded 528 kick return yards (20.3 average), fifth in Canada West in 2010.

"It is hard to comprehend that I just got drafted. I am overjoyed and have waited over 10 years for this moment. I knew there was some interest from Toronto and other teams and was very happy to be selected by the Argonauts," said Hurst.
