Redskins' Hall may get dinged

WASHINGTON -- The NFL will consider a suspension or fine of Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who was ejected from Sunday's loss at Pittsburgh after an outburst at an official, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The league is reviewing the matter and all disciplinary options will be considered, the person said Monday, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the review is ongoing. It was not clear Monday whether a suspension, a fine or no penalty is most likely.

The NFL had no public comment on the matter. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said earlier Monday the team was wary of a suspension of Hall.

Hall was ejected from the loss at Pittsburgh after an incident with an official late in the game.

"Any time you get kicked out of a game, ejected, there's a chance of missing a game or two, depending on what they decide," Shanahan said in a conference call with reporters Monday.

Shanahan defended some of Hall's actions, saying he believed a 15-yard penalty should have been called on Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders for a tussle with Hall after a play.

"I think it would have stopped everything," Shanahan said.

No penalty was called on Sanders. After his tie-up with Sanders, Hall removed his helmet and yelled and gestured at head linesman Dana McKenzie, leading to his ejection. Hall appeared to use profanity several times while yelling at McKenzie.

Shanahan declined Monday to address Hall's conduct toward the officials, but said: "Until he took his helmet off, it's exactly what I ask our guys to do... Initially I thought he did everything perfect."

But Shanahan also said: "There's no excuse for having personal fouls, no matter what happens... You still have to handle yourself the right way."

Shanahan declined to comment on whether he would take any action against Hall, saying he would wait until the league acts.
