Riders hold Cornish to 67 yards
REGINA -- Joe Lobendahn's interception of Kevin Glenn was the turning point Sunday as the Saskatchewan Roughriders held Calgary running back Jon Cornish to 67 yards rushing in a 30-25 victory over the Stampeders.
Riders head coach Corey Chamblin pledged earlier in the week to make personnel changes if Cornish, the CFL's leading rusher, ran for over 100 yards against Saskatchewan.
His players not only answered the challenge but ended the Stamps' four-game winning streak in front of a sold-out crowd of 33,427 at Mosaic Stadium.
Lobendahn's game-changing pick came as Glenn threw over the middle with the game tied 13-13 in the third quarter.
Saskatchewan (6-6) was energized by the momentum swing and scored two plays later when quarterback Darian Durant threw 11 yards to Weston Dressler in the end zone.
The Stampeders (7-5) followed with a pair of two-and-outs, the second leading to another Roughriders TD.
Tristan Jackson returned the Rob Maver punt 33 yards before Durant connected with Taj Smith on a 30-yard TD pass to put Saskatchewan up 27-13.
Calgary made it 27-25 in the fourth, scoring a field goal, touchdown, two-point conversion and a kickoff single, but turned the ball over on downs with barely a minute to play. Riders kicker Sandro DeAngelis capped a perfect day with his third field goal of the game from 37 yards.
