New Zealand's James Beale wins Canadian men's amateur championship

James Beale of New Zealand birdied the third playoff hole to capture the Canadian men's amateur championship this afternoon at Elmhurst.

Beale, who will soon graduate from Mercer University in the U.S., won the three-man playoff by making three at Elmhurst's par-four 18th hole.

He defeated Taylor Pendrith Of Richmond Hill,Ont., and Jonathan Garrick of Atherton, Calif., after all three finished the regulation 72 holes at six-under-par.

Winnipeg's Bret Thompson finished in the top 10 at three-under for the week.
