Jury clears physician in LPGA golfer Erica Blasberg wrongful death civil lawsuit in Las Vegas

  • Print

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A Nevada jury has cleared a physician in a wrongful death medical malpractice case stemming from the May 2010 suicide of LPGA golfer Erica Blasberg.

Jurors who heard five days of civil trial testimony deliberated less than an hour Tuesday before finding Dr. Thomas Hess had no liability in the death.

Blasberg's parents, Mel and Debra Blasberg, accused Hess of pursuing a romantic relationship with the 25-year-old Blasberg. They say he put that interest ahead of her medical needs.

Hess denied the two had a romantic relationship. He didn't attend the verdict.

His attorney noted that Blasberg's suicide letter said not to blame anyone.

Hess was convicted of a misdemeanour obstruction charge for removing the suicide note and some medications after finding Blasberg dead in bed at her Henderson home.
