'Cinderella' team out of playoffs
They’re out but not down. The North End’s "Cinderella" hockey team Norquay Knights featured in Wednesday’s Free Press is out of the playoffs after losing 2-0 to Selkirk Tuesday night.
The 9 and 10 year old rookie players who were at the bottom of Atom A3 in the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association learned some skills, pulled together and rocketed to the playoffs at the end of the season. They won six games straight, tied Monday night, then lost on Tuesday.
"Our magic wore off," said coach Will Hudson. For his group of boys and girls, winning wasn’t everything, or even the main thing.
"...We provided a positive experience for our youth and life-lasting memories."
