Manitoba’s Shelby Bram and Meghan Dufault have been named to Canada’s national women’s under-18 hockey team.

Bram, of Ste. Anne, and Dufault, of Winnipeg, will help Team Canada in its pursuit of a second straight gold medal when the team competes at the 2011 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship Jan. 1-8 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Canadian team won its first gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship in Chicago last April. The USA won gold in the first two years of the championship in 2008 and 2009.

Bram is a forward with Eastman Selects female AA midget team while Dufault is a forward for the Pursuit of Excellence female midget AAA team in Kelowna, B.C.

The team of 20 players was chosen after a three-day selection camp in Toronto Dec. 17-19 featuring 31 players.

Canada’s first game will be against Switzerland on Jan. 1. The gold medal game will be played on Jan. 8.
