Eric O'Dell scores hat trick to lead St. John's past Connecticut 5-1
HARTFORD, Conn. - Eric O'Dell had a hat trick to lead the St. John's IceCaps past the Connecticut Whale 5-1 in American Hockey League action Wednesday.
O'Dell scored twice in the first period to help St. John's (23-28-3) open a 3-0 lead, while Ben Maxwell and Maxime Macenauer also scored for the IceCaps.
Andrew Yogan scored in the second for Connecticut's (25-22-6) lone goal.
IceCaps goaltender Mark Dekanich made 25 saves, while at the other end Cameron Talbot was pulled after allowing three goals on 11 shots. He was replaced by Jason Missiaen, who made 24 saves.
