WINNIPEG JETS
Record: 37 – 35 – 10
Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION
Highlight reel: Jets 4 / Panthers 3 (S0)
Big picture
Kyle Wellwood scored the clincher in the shootout to give Winnipeg the win and earn their second win of this seven-game road trip. The Jets took a 2-1 lead and then fell behind 3-2 in the third before Evander Kane tied the game with 50 seconds left in regulation and Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec out of the net.
Little picture
The Jets didn't like the hit Panthers winger Jack Skille put on blueliner Tobias Entsrom in the second period. Enstrom was hunched over and appeared defenceless when Skille tagged him. Winnipeg's Dustin Byfuglien immediately went after him and was charged with a double minor but got little satisfaction for his troubles. Early in the third period Jets captain Andrew Ladd demanded Skille answer for his actions and the two scrapped with Ladd earning a slight edge.
Internet cheap shot
The Panthers announced an attendance of 11,855 to which one reader sent us the following reply: "Sure. And I've got Bieber bangs," wrote the surely 50-something balding Jets fan.
Video review
Here's the explanation of the ruling the NHL made on the Jets third goal which forced overtime.
"At 19:10 of the third period in the Jets/Panthers game, video review confirmed the referees call on the ice that Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane hit the puck with his stick below the crossbar into the net. Referee Tom Kowal conferred with the other three officials on the ice before going to video review, which is normal practice when there is a question of a goal being scored by a high stick, the officials concluded that Kane's stick was below the crossbar when he hit the puck. Video Review confirmed this call. Good Goal Winnipeg."
Injury time
Enstrom did not return for the third period.
