Highlight reel

Jets 6 / Flyers 4

(Saturday's game)

Big picture

A winning streak of three games -- all in regulation time -- has put the 8-9-3 Jets within striking distance of .500 and, for the moment, back into the top-eight playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. That's a pretty productive week.

Little picture

JETS and Flyers seem to be a combination that will cause ulcers for coaches and fans. The teams have combined in two games for 27 goals, very un-NHL-like. Saturday, each squad had eight power plays. With three goals with the man advantage, the Jets won the special-teams game and the two points.

Game-changer

WHEN Jim Slater pounced on falling Flyers captain Chris Pronger and scooted up the ice to score a short-handed goal in the second period, it was a strong statement that the Jets were not going to try to ride on one period. It made the game 4-1 and though the first period oozed with Winnipeg confidence, Slater's sixth goal was a big moment.

Three ★★★

★ Dustin Byfuglien, Jets. Three points, a large week.

★★ Claude Giroux, Flyers. Three points, there are few competitors like him.

★★★ Bryan Little, Jets. Right place, right time and helped his team get out of the gate strongly once again at home.
