Highlight Reel

HIGHLIGHT REEL

Islanders 3 / Jets 2 (SO)

Big picture

It's a point, but on a night in which they could have moved above the eighth-place line with a victory, it's the one that got away that will hurt the most. And so on a night in which both Washington and Ottawa won and Buffalo and Jersey lost, the Jets are stuck staring up at a pile of teams above them. Paint this as another opportunity lost.

Little picture

We'd like to comment on developments about the Jets' power-play on the night but, alas, they never had one for just the second time this season. The only other time they didn't enjoy a man advantage, oddly enough, came against the Islanders. For what it's worth, the penalty-kill units were strong, as the Islanders were 0-for-2 on the power-play. But how many NHL games this season have featured zero power-plays for one team? We'd guess not many.

Game Breaker

It came in the shootout as both Islanders, PA Parenteau and Frans Nielsen scored while Evgeny Nabokov stoned both Blake Wheeler and Kyle Wellwood. Winnipeg is now 1-2 in shootouts this season.
