It don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got the ring.
A piece of jewelry commemorating the AVCO Cup victory by the 1977-78 Winnipeg Jets, widely considered to be the best team in the city’s hockey history, is up for grabs.
The ring, which has a price tag of $1,999, used to belong to Norm Defelice, a scout with the team.
Former Jets goalie Joe Daley is selling the ring from his collectibles shop on St. James Street.
He said just looking at the ring brings back fond memories of having the likes of Bobby Hull, Anders Hedberg, Ulf Nilsson, Lars-Erik Sjoberg, Willy Lindstrom and Kent Nilsson out in front of him.
Not only did that team win the second of three AVCO Cup championships, it also beat the Soviet national team 5-3 on January 5, 1978 – highlighted by a hat trick by Bobby Hull ‑ the only club squad to ever do so.
