More details released on Jets' Byfuglien arrest
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office in Minneapolis has released more details on the arrest of Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien late Wednesday night.
The 26-year-old was arrested at 8:15 p.m. by a Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office deputy and booked into Hennepin County jail on probable cause for third degree boating while intoxicated and the refusal of a blood or urine test.
The arrest took place on Lower Lake South on Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior and Byfuglien was released from jail at 2:23 am. Thursday morning.
The case will now be presented to the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District attorney for consideration of charges.
"We're aware of the reports. We're still gathering information at this time," said Jets director of communications Scott Brown.
Byfuglien, a Minnesota product, has a residence in Spring Park and the area is popular among local celebrities who have settled there.
Byfuglien is an all-star who led all NHL defencemen last year in goals and helped guide the Chicago Blackhawks to the 2010 Stanley Cup before being traded to the Atlanta Thrashers in late June of 2010.
A side note for Jets fans: When he was booked, Byfuglien was weighed and he came in at 286 pounds. He played at approximately 245 pounds last year.
