Former Winnipeg Jets blueliner Derek Meech, a Winnipegger himself, is heading across the sea.

On Sunday, Dinamo Minsk of the KHL announced it had signed Meech for the upcoming season.

Meech, who battled back from injury in the 2011-12 season to help lead the Jets' affiliate St. John's IceCaps in their 2012 playoff run, squeezed into 16 games with the big club in 2012-13.

Meech was an unrestricted free agent. In joining Dinamo Minsk, he will be heading to a squad that's also featured former Jet Tim Stapleton. Star winger Evander Kane also played with Minsk for a stint during the 2011 NHL lockout.
