Jets True North Foundation made donations to nearly 50 charities
The Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation is expected to announce more than $1 million in donations to nearly 50 charities at a 12:30 p.m. press conference today.
One of the beneficiaries of the hockey team’s charitable arm, which is funded from sales of 50-50 tickets and Winnipeg Jets licence plates, is the True North Hockey Academy. About 150 underprivileged kids in Grade 4 through Grade 8 participated last year but the number of participants is expected to triple this year as the age range expands to include students in grades 2, 3 and 9.
By comparison, the Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation, True North’s charitable division when it ran an AHL team, doled out $2.3 million to charity in 15 years.
