Jets announce Simmons as assistant general manager

Larry Simmons is one of those loyal foot soldiers whose handiwork largely goes unnoticed by Winnipeg Jet fans.

But the man is obviously making an impact with the organization, as True North announced today he has been named assistant general manager of the Jets.

Simmons, who came north from Atlanta to work with the Jets, spent last year as the assistant to the GM, helping Kevin Cheveldayoff and senior vice-president Craig Heisinger in various jobs.

He worked for 12 years with the Thrashers organization in Atlanta, and since 2004 was the VP/assistant GM.
