Evander Kane might yet be a player when the Winnipeg Jets meet the St. Louis Blues Friday night at the MTS Centre.

Jets coach Claude Noel said today that Kane is day-to-day, leaving open the possibility that he could still play this week.

"It turned out to be day-to-day, not severe," the coach said.

The left-winger was helped off the ice late during Wednesday’s team practice at the MTS Iceplex, favouring his right leg or knee.

The coach also said today that though centres Bryan Little and Jim Slater were missing from practice today, too, both of them are expected to be in action Friday.

"We’re day-to-day on three guys that were missing practice... Little was maintenance, Slater was the same and we’re expecting them to play," Noel said. "Evander Kane is also day-to-day and we’ll see how that shakes down for tomorrow’s game."

Asked directly if Kane could play against the Blues, Noel said: "Potential (player), yes. We’ll have to wait to see.

"We’ll know more tomorrow. We don’t know any more than that."

Kane, who has three goals and five points through seven games, was seen at Wednesday night’s fundraising gala dinner at the MTS Centre.

Earlier today the Jets announced centre Patrice Cormier will join the team today, recalled from the AHL's St. John's IceCaps.

Cormier has played four games so far this AHL season, with one assist. He played 10 games for the Jets last season.

As well, the Jets also announced this morning they are placing right-winger Chris Thorburn on injured reserve, retroactive to Oct. 4, the date of their second game of the season.

He's been out with an upper-body injury. Coach Claude Noel said Wednesday that Thorburn was "more than day-to-day," but wasn't far away from the lineup.
