Jets' opening-day roster taking shape
The Winnipeg Jets’ 2013 opening-day roster is starting to take shape.
The Jets announced this afternoon that three players – forwards Spencer Machacek and Maxime Macenauer and defenceman Derek Meech – have been re-assigned to the St. John’s IceCaps. This move comes after the Jets earlier claimed forward James Wright off waivers, following his release by the Florida Panthers.

The transaction also leaves Zach Redmond and Paul Postma with the big club, as well as rookie Mark Scheifele, who was working Friday on a line with veterans Jim Slater and Chris Thorburn.
Asked about changing expectations this year, Jet coach Claude Noel stressed the goal remains the same as a year ago: securing a playoff spot.
"The expectation should rise," said Noel. "I think the fact that we didn’t make the playoffs is not something we’re happy with. We should be expected to make the playoffs. You watch the shows and the rankings… I don’t put much stock in that stuff, but that’s just fuel for us. And in a shortened season, who knows how it’s going to go."
