Jets sign Lipon to entry-level contract

The Winnipeg Jets put a new rookie under contract on Thursday, inking 2013 third-round draft pick J.C. Lipon to an entry-level contract.

Lipon, 20, was undrafted heading into his overage year for the WHL's Kamloops Blazers, but the winger stubbornly mounted a standout campaign, notching 89 points (36G, 53A) in 61 regular season games and adding six goals and 17 assists in the post-season.

That performance earned the six-foot Regina forward a spot on Team Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championship.

His three-year entry-level deal with the Jets will pay $700,000 in the NHL, although Lipon is almost certain to begin his development with the St. John's IceCaps.
