Jets sign free agent goaltender Montoya
WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Jets have solved their temporary goalie problem, inking free-agent Al Montoya to a contract to be Ondrej Pavelec’s backup.
Montoya, a 27-year-old native of Chicago, missed much of last season and lost his starting job with the New York Islanders because of a concussion.
He had a record of 9-11-5 in 31 appearances for the Islanders.
In the 2004 entry draft, Montoya was the sixth overall pick by the Rangers. He has played only 57 NHL games in his career.
