Jets tailgate party at News Café

The Winnipeg Jets didn’t make the playoffs in their return season -- but what a year it’s been.
Where to start? Arguably the loudest fans in the NHL, 41 consecutive sellouts, the return of Teemu Selanne and a run to the post-season that came up just short.
The Winnipeg Free Press is hosting a tailgating party to commemorate the first year of the reborn Jets at the Winnipeg Free Press News Café Thursday at 5.
(There won’t be any actual tailgating, as parking is at a premium in the Exchange District around rush hour and there’s no sense risking a ticket for an unauthorized barbecue.)
Geoff Kirbyson, of the paper’s Jetcetera video series, hosted. He was be joined by the paper’s Jets beat writers, Ed Tait and Tim Campbell, as well as Darren Ford, who kept the fans’ dream alive for years with the fan forum on his jetsowner.com website, and Paul Waldie, who spent the last seven months writing about the Jets for the Globe and Mail.
We livestreamed the event on our website. But Jets fans are also invited to come down and join us, both for the interview portion and for the game, which we’re showing on our two big-screen televisions.
We don’t have any Budweiser Fan Brew for sale but we have some reasonable facsimiles if you’re a fan of frosty cold beverages during a hockey game.
Those in attendance will be eligible to win Jets prizes including a framed print of the first Free Press front page following the first Jets game, and two tickets to the final home game on April 7th.
